The 3 worst reasons to buy a house

The decision on whether to rent or buy has rarely been tougher. On the one hand, spiraling real estate prices make people afraid they'll be priced out of the market if they don't buy soon. On the other hand, renting is a relative bargain in many high-cost areas, and a growing chorus of economists warns us about the possibility of housing bubbles in many markets. If youre facing this nerve-racking decision, you need facts, not myths. It's a fact that homeownership is a great way for most people to build wealth over time. But that doesnt mean everyone should be a homeowner. Its a bigger commitment and more expensive than most first-time buyers ever realize. You should have a clear idea of what youre getting into before you commit to 30 years of payments -- and you shouldnt let any of the following popular legends guide your decision.

So true. Ownership isn't for everyone and already the subprimes are slowly rearing its ugly head again. With rates so low, I fear a return to people who can't afford homes trying to take advantage of the rates and the vicious cycle starting again.

It feels as if your blog is cut off. Would love to know the other 2 reasons!

Also, why did you hiperlink "decision"? it takes me to the homepage

Thanks!

as a home owner, you're right on. sure, i got in before the worst of times, but at the time i had a dramatically highter paying job, and now to try to refi, is impossible. there is the part of me that wants to sell and be a renter, but rents are not cheap either! and the way our tax system is set up, there is no tax benefit to rent. it's loose loose right now.

hang in there!
